<電子工程專輯>半導體巨頭瑞薩一直驕傲的宣稱:“瑞薩MCU的出貨量居全球第一”。2005年,按照出貨量計算,瑞薩佔據全球MCU市場的22.6%。在所有MCU業務中,汽車電子方面的業務占到瑞薩業務總量的27%,是其第一大應用領域。所謂汽車電子,是泛指應用於汽車系統的電子部件和設備。實際上,汽車業的發展早已進入電子時代,車身電子、車載網路、汽車安全系統、汽車資訊娛樂、車載導航系統等都有先進的微電子控制器的作用。
全球每輛汽車中電子器件的價值在上世紀90年代為672美元,到2004年,已經上漲到2132美元。有報告預計,到2010年,全球每輛汽車中電子器件的價值占汽車總價值的比例還會繼續升高,將由2001年的23%增加到35%。單就混合動力汽車來說,其電子器件的價值在汽車總價值之中的占比更是高達50%。屆時,這些數字將造就一個年銷售總額高達3000億美元的大市場。
2005年,瑞薩佔據了日本汽車電子領域的23%和全球市場7%的份額。尤其是在引擎控制領域,瑞薩的產品在日本市場擁有近60%的市場份額,而在安全氣囊領域,瑞薩產品的佔有率更是高達日本市場的85%和全球市場的25%。汽車電子當然依賴於汽車市場,按照市場的份額統計,日本、歐洲和美國市場是瑞薩汽車電子領域的重點。不過,近幾年來,無論中國的汽車產量還是汽車銷售量都不斷擴大。中國汽車業在全球汽車工業中的地位正在崛起。如此,中國的汽車電子市場也正成為汽車電子領域巨頭們爭相爭奪的重點。
調查機構指出,未來五年,中國與汽車相關的半導體市場平均將以26.5%增幅發展;到2012年中國汽車電子晶片市場規模預計將達到全球的12%。“全球各大汽車廠商都在積極進入中國市場,與此同時,我們也隨之進入並擴展中國市場。”4月份新任職瑞薩科技社長兼COO的本克博說。

自從2003年4月,瑞薩由日立半導體事業部和三菱電機半導體事業部合併組建開始,就一直居全球半導體廠商排名前列。在當年由IC Insights公佈的排名榜中,它僅次於英代爾和三星電子,位居全球第三。不過,自那時起,瑞薩的排名就始終處於下跌狀態。2004年,瑞薩的全球排名居第五位,2005年滑落至第七位。而按照IC Insights剛剛公佈的2006上半年全球半導體廠商排行表,瑞薩的排名更是降到了第八位。
